Loop Pavilion

Envisioned for the Duabi 2020[2021] Expo, Loop Pavilion pays homage to Australia, a country with bountiful native flora and fauna that have adapted to the harsh surrounding climate. Loop explores the complexities of sustainability and showcases climate resilient design through modern technologies inspired by the natural environment.

A unique Australian plant, the Waratah, is the inspiration for the pavilion with its waxy leaves, adapted over time to maximise water capture. Such qualities of the Waratah are blended with vernacular techniques of the region to form the founding principles in the design of Loop Pavilion.
The atmospheric water harvester which encloses Loop become the ‘leaves’ that collect water, while the central tower becomes its ‘stigma’, which draws people into and through different experiential spaces. Expo visitors in turn become the seeds which continue to spread awareness, knowledge and action on sustainability.

The Loop Pavilion experience aims to illustrate the importance of water as a key element in sustaining life on Earth. It will highlight sustainable technologies that incorporate innovative loop systems and microclimates, and will foster reconnections with nature through the experience of seeing and interacting with beauty in native flora and fauna.
